Bloodhound antivirus ?

Can anyone tell me where I can find a free antivirus to at least stop spreading it on the internet. The Virus seems to be Bloodhound or some sort of Trojan according to messages received by win32.res .

One of the best Av programs I have tried and still use is AVG free from grisoft.

Download install then update. Also goto www.download.com and get these programs

Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spyware blaster.

Also goto www.ccleaner.com and get a copy of CCLEANER

Run CCLEANER (this gets rid of all those temp files), REMEMBER to run in everything ie in windows , applications and issues. With the last do a backup first!!!

Install all the programs above, then update them.

Turn your computer into safe-mode by turning it off then on....while it is booting up keep pressing F8

highlight the first from the list of this window!! IE safemode

Now run each scan, AVG, ADAWARE, SPYBOT.

You don't need to run spyware blaster as there is no scanner!!! This program stop spyware installing on to your computer!!

I would recommend that you download AVG or Comodo anti-virus and uninstall the McAfee program unless you plan on buying it.

Personally, I prefer Comodo's free anti-virus program over AVG, but both are very good.

If it says expired, that means you are not downloading current anti-virus definitions and are not protected. You should either renew the subscription or remove it and install another like AVG as you suggested.
You can either buy/renew your subscription or change anti-virus providers. If you want to leave McAfee, simply uninstall the application.

My new windows vista premium computer came with Norton but I found it to slow my computer down and I didnt want to pay for it when it expired so I took it off and downloaded AVG antivirus from www.download.com which is free, I also downloaded the AVG antispyware and Zone Alarm Firewall works really well with Vista (you can use the built in Windows Firewall if you want to). I have tried nearly all the other free antivirus products but found that AVG was really the best for my machine and I have only had one virus which AVG got rid of for me!
There are many antivirus software that is compatible with vista, Windows Live onecare, Norton 360, NOD32, Kaspersky 7.

And no I don't think you will find a free one.

I downloaded this stupid free antivirus, and I think it is messing up my computer. My computer is slower, and a lot of the times my CPU percentage is at 100 even when I'm not doing anything, and it's all cuz of the program. My dad installed it to his computer, and when he removed it, it completely ruined his computer. You almost can't even use it cuz it's so slow. I want to remove this program, but I don't know the best way to do it so I don't have the same problem as my dad. Any suggestions?

I have AVG and I love it, it really causes no problems at all for me. You might want to make sure you don't have any viruses or malware, those are biggies when it comes to slowing down your machine. I guess if you have an older computer, it could be using a lot of the resources from it, but still...It would help to have the specs (memory, processor speed, OS, other programs running) to figure out if AVG is the cause or not.

Also, to remove it you would go to start%26gt;control panel%26gt;Add or Remove programs.

There is no problem with Norton at all, however i would recommend upgrading to Norton Systemworks. Norton Systemworks is very good. That's the only good software from Norton. I wouldn't recommend Norton Internet security, its not that great. But if you wanna know the best software out there I'll get in to it now.

No other software can compete with that or come close for that matter. It catches everything. I've used them all and it is 2nd to none.

in my opinion its not. I have had alot of machines running both avg and avast. The are about the same in reliability. The one thing i will note, when there is a major problem.... avg will indicate this by turning the box by your time to a grey color and updates will not work. when avast encounters these types of problems, it will NOT notify your or offer some type of hint anything is wrong.

thats about the only difference to an end user i can think of... their both FREE and you only get what you pay for :)

Avast is a pretty decent anti virus. good in protection but also have a rather high false positives rate (that is detects a virus or a trojan even if it is not). If you rather want a free antivirus go with avira antivir classic. The only problem is that it has limited usage (good for at least several months) then you have to go to another cycle of installing/updating it. If you dislike this option go with AVG free edition. It is better than avast (although just a slight difference). But if you're willing to pay then go with - 1. kaspersky AV, 2. ESET NOD32 AV or 3. avira's antivir premium

If you have two scans going on - both antivirus and antispyware - yes stop them now and only do one at a time. AVG antivirus is medium-lite on the system when scanning, allowing you to work in the background during a scan easily. I bought the premium version this past year (diehard Norton antivirus user).

Your security scanners like antivirus and antispyware need their resources to do their job. What will bog things down a little is if you have good programs that are able to do "intensive scans" which means they are also scanning all zip files and compressed and hidden files. This you can choose to do once a week or at least twice a month - a full intensive scan. Viruses as opposed to spyware are going to be the ones that will infect compressed files. However, if it is a really severe spyware and coupled with a trojan or other - it too will be snooping into compressed files and attemtping to send that back to the cybercriminal on the other end.

1. Backup all ur important data to another partition

2. Format ur windows partition and do a clean install of windows .

Try a online antivirus scanner and a online anti-adware/malware/spyware scanner in safe mode with network to clean up your computer BEFORE you download anything.

Turn off system restore before you boot up in safe mode with network to clear your system restore points for viruses, spyware, adware etc.

Choose "Safe mode with network".

you have to buy another Disk , u cant use the same CD 2 install the OS in other comp. theres only one way to purchase new activation codes from Microsoft they'll only gave you activation codes for 4 computers.

I think microsoft expect you to license (buy a copy) of their so called operating system for each each PC. Why not use linux, that way you will not need licenses (or anti virus)
Unless you have an OEM license agreement, you have to buy each time or the owner will run into registration problems and you don't need that kind of feedback. I highly recommend AVG free or Avast if for an individual. If they are for a business, look into the PC-cillin for good products scalable to the users needs and great support at a very reasonable price.

Which free anti-virus is better for PREVENTION: Avast or Antivir?

I have fairly tight security already. I use Comodo firewall which is highly rated. I'm already 100% virus %26 spyware free %26 to keep it that way I'm using Faronics Deep Freeze (which freezes my C: drive) %26 in case that is compromised I'm backed-up with Acronis True Image which can fully restore the C: drive within 20 minutes. What I'm more interested in a free antivirus... I repeat FREE!!!!!... don't suggest I pay money... is that it will give better PROTECTION from getting the virus in the first place, in order to protect my personal files on the other drives. With this software normally if I did get any virus the moment I reboot, hey presto.. gone! ;)

Now, without any doubt Antivir beats Avast hands down on scanning ability %26 on scanning AVG isn't even a contender. But on the free editions of these products Avast has more protection enabled by default, like on-line mail %26 P2P; so Im not sure whether Avast won't be better at protecting me from infection. It's refreshing to have somebody who realize that AVG is just a not very good antivirus scanner. Avast extra protection is just a marketing tool and it took more resources from your pc to run these. Avast also can really slow down your pc during the scans too. Avira already scan everything that came into contact with your pc so that will cover all the extras protection on Avast. In anycase your firewall should protect you from p2p and everything else. There's a free scanner from AOL that is very good, Active Shield, but the thing is that it uses an older scanning engine from Kaspersky (v6) so it's won't be effective at detecting new viruses. Since you already have a software firewall (i use ZoneAlarm Pro), a hardware firewall (Router), antivirus, Image Backup (i also use Acronis TI, too) and i hope that you also have a few antispywares apps runnning on your pc, you should be fine. Remember that NO Antivirus can catch 100% of all viruses. The best antivirus can only catch around 97%---and that's the paid version of Kaspersky. Of all the free antivirus, Avira is the best right now,IMHO, since i've already tried just about all of them at one time or another.

It is not neccesarry to buy those Anti-virus programs. There are alot of quality free anti-virus programs such as "AVG" - google it and check it out. And there is no catch on it ;) .

AVG score pretty well, but since av-comparatives.org tested the AVG Anti-malware (antivirus and antspyware combine), I'm not exactly sure of the outcome for just the antivirus but if you have both AVG Antivirus and AVG Antispyware (both separate and free) you'll have a very solid protection.

Both AVG and Avira scored Advance+ on the last on-demand test but Avira scored only Standard while AVG scored Advance on the retrospective test because of the false alarms that Avira detected. If it wasn't for the false alarms, Avira would had defiantly scored Advance or higher.

You are on the right track. Get rid of McAfee or Norton. They suck. Both ask for money for a product that is buggy and slow. Switching to a free anti-virus like AVG is a great idea. Also check our Anti-Vir. Great anti-virus program that is SMALL and FAST.

Also, don't think you are done if you get just an anti-virus program. you still need to protect against spyware, which Mcafee and norton did a crappy job of anyways. The best two programs that I like to use are Spybot and Ad-Aware, They both have free versions which work like a charm. Use them once a week and you will be better off than if you had Mcafee installed.

Just a tip. Use common sense too! Don't think that this will protect you 100%. Their is no program that will do that. If you are in a shady web site and you download/install something that you really don't know what it is, you could be trashing your computer.

A/V turning off all on it's own is usually an indication of an infection... sometimes it can just be a reinstallation issue if lucky... I would look into that and maybe do a scan from one of the top vendor websites that offer web scanning..

So the answer to your question is YES but a properly configured firewall will help in that not happening...

Basically the way it works is an attacker will scan for open ports... and will scan for programs running on the computer that is unpatched and has known vulnerabilities.

If any of these are found they are points of possible entry.

So if you don't have windows updates with the latest security patches then they could fund an MS vulnerability and attack it and possibly gain entry even through your firewall.

There's even something called "Firewalking" that goes around the firewall looking for ways in...

I think you should try Kaspersky Antivirus for Antivirus and if you want the firewall with it then buy Kaspersky Internet Security. I can suggest you Zone Alarm Pro as an external Firewall. That's what you call an ad. If AVG Free does what you want it to do, then you don't really need to change it. I use AVG Free for antivirus, Windows Defender and Spybot Search %26 Destroy for anti-spyware, Sygate Personal Firewall as my software firewall, and I've seen them all in action.

AVG, Windows Defender, and Sygate Personal Firewall once prevented my system from problems when Bethseda's official forums got hacked. (This was before I installed Spybot.) That particular situation was an unusual one, the best way to avoid problems is simply to stay away from dubious websites. You're not likely to get a virus from, say, Cnet. Or Yahoo Answers. But if you're visiting sites that offer "free downloads" of "full version" software, then you're tempting fate. (And hopefully Bethseda's learned it's lesson about keeping it's forum software up to date.)

In my opinion you have to clean registry and disk with CM DiskCleaner
First - Use the add and remove programs.

Then use regcleaner to clean the registry of all traces of norton and symantec. Use the search the registry to find all registry entries with names norton and symantec. Be sure to use the regcleaner not other same sounding names.

Caution: Be careful with the registry because it could really mess up your computer if you make a mistake.

Try booting up in safe mode. Press F8 before the Windows splash screen when booting up, then choose Start Windows in Safe Mode. Then you can uninstall Norton.

I highly recommend Avast! Antivirus. It's free for home users and not quite the memory hog as Kaspersky.
Norton is crazy to uninstall. Aside from their typical uninstall with the program you will probably want to look into a registry cleaner so that you can get rid of the small traces left. I can say though that I removed Norton for Kaspersky also and I still find small traces of Norton in folders I never thought possible. Just remove them as you come to them.

Do any of the above, and turn off system restore. Viruses like to hide in there. Right click my computer, system restore, check turn off system restore. clean your system. If you want to turn system restore back on, but I never do. I have other means of backing up my system.

Free AVG is one of the worst,as far as my personal experience goes.When I used it ,I had so many unexpected problems,still no virus was found by an updated avg.Later mcafee detected around 30 infected files.

Just put the in the virus vault. That will contain them and keep them from doing any damage.
Boot up in safe mode and move everything to the virus vault.

(ANS) The Norton Anti Virus update subscription service is nothing more than a very expensive rip off from Symantec.

**I dumped Norton AV when they wanted to charge me an extra 拢12 just because I wanted to pay by debit card and not there preferred method which was (is) credit card.

**I had a total nightmare attempting to remove Norton AV from my system, it was horrific. In the end I had to goto the Symantec website and download special uninstaller program just to remove the dam thing. Plus my machine ran MUCH much faster after the program was removed. Norton Gobbles a very large amount of resources and yes! slows your system down which is one reason NOT to use Norton AV.

**I switched over to FREE AVG from Grisoft, which is in my experience a FAR FAR better product than Norton anyway. AVG has free daily updates of its control files %26 signature files. I highly rate AVG 10 out of 10 you would be hard pushed to find a better anti virus solution.

It's not recommended, and it can definately cause instability on your system. It could also cause performance issues since there are two scans occurring when you open emails, documents, etc.

AVG is a great free program that will clean most issues.

I would also suggest that before you do this, you look to see if you have system restore turned on.

this is a nice little feature that Microsoft added that can return you machine to the last known good setup in case something goes wrong.

I have seen in the past, where a virus will get written to this back-up and then re-infect the machine even though the antivirus said that it is clean.

right-click on my computer, properties, system restore. Disable this, reboot, then run the antivirus.

Most will tell you AVG and Kaspersky are your best choices. I tried both but it started bothering me. I forgot why though, maybe the updaters, system slowing.. I have been using Avira Antivirus instead and I've been delighted with it. I used to work for McAfee, but of late I'm of the opinion some free programs are better, and I'd recommend Avira whole-heartedly.

Mind you, you should use anti-spyware tools too these days. There's a Dutch program called Hitman Pro, which combines it all including a shite NOID virusscan. Since you probably don't speak Dutch, try Ad-Aware by Lavasoft at least. SpyDoctor and Scotty the Windows Watchdog (winpatrol) are also excellent. Lastly, Everest Home Edition by Lavalys will give you all the necessary information of your system, when you need it.
You can download Norton for free with Google Pack. You have to install a downloader first, you also have the option to download some other great programs as well.
