I am not looking for software, nor do I have problems paying for it, I just hear a lot about free antivirus applications and I am skeptical about wether or not they actually work.
Are freeware antivirus programs actually effective?free anti virus
Free antivirus programs are okay but of course, there are some functions not available versus the paid ones. In terms of security though, I would say they are the same but you get more benefits from buying the licensed version.

AVG is very effective... all reviews rank it on par with or better that McAfee and Norton... check PCMag review at second link...
Yes. i use anti vir personal edition and it is good, fast and robust.
Yeah, they work. Sometimes, better than those expensive ones. AVG is a good example.
If you go to download.com, look for antivirus, and sort by review, you'll see several top-rated programs come up that are free. I have Norton AntiVirus on my computer, and the free Adaware program by LavaSoft for getting rid of adware. For more on free anti-virus, go to Freebyte's link.
I'm very happy with Adaware, which seems to catch a lot more than Norton, and I've had some program conflicts with Norton. There's gotta be better stuff out there.
yes, very much so
go to majorgeeks.com
download avg for antivirus and malware
download ad-aware and spybot for spyware
all 3 are free and good
why pay money
